I'm keeping in with Identi.ca Anything so new that generated so
much discussion last night deserves a chance. Hot Air, Hype or "The
New Black" will only be found over time.
It's laughable the criticism its already getting. Mighty
Oaks/Acorns etc
Plurk uses cute colours but the top half screen looks totally
messed up to me. Can't use it at all. Identi.ca needs more features
before it can be a competitor to Jaiku or Plurk.
I think I will be using identi.ca over plurk I got home after 5
and half hours away from it and had a total of 54 replies to check
so going to ditch it and use Jaiku and indenti.ca only
I agree identi.ca has only been going days rather than even
weeks and people should give it time to grow. I hope the open
source aspect means developers can help it grow and improve. I've
never tried Plurk but I didn't like it when I looked.
I like identi.ca so far. Obviously can't tell yet if it's going
to turn into something great or not but I'll certainly do my best
as a user to help it get there. :)
Me too and the fact that it's licensed under the AGPL has meant
people who would never normally touch a service like this are
there. Bradley Kuhn is on there I saw, who's next Stallman :D
@edy Yeah I saw that. :)
Though evan must be doing something right as the identi.ca website
seems to be running well today.
@dan I think the
conversations on identi.ca are going to be a lot more interesting
for me as opposed to plurk, precisely because it's attracting the
open source crowd. I'm really hoping it will take off, if only in
those circles.
But as bvlad said, it would be great for small workgroups and,
yeah well Im glad I didn't get deep involved in a simular danish
project.. Actually I thought that WP would take the lead in that
area, but I glad they didn't.
I launched on Monday or something so you can't expect too much
yet, I don't think they were expecting to get all this attention
right away, they've had no time to even build the service, it's
running well for me today though IM still needs work. Considering
the guy only had one server I think he's doing really well. The
open source crowd will stick with him I reckon but the joiners will
just go somewhere else quickly. It remains to be seen how it pans
out
Open source applications are made successful by the community
that it manages to attract. I have high hopes for identi.ca's
bright future. As @zenith
pointed out, it will be great if a lot of free software guys can
gather around the service(both as developers and users). Yes,
perhaps even Stallman ;)
If Jaiku like comments are added then it will be good. All I
want then is some integration/coherence with blogs and microblogs,
but that is last nights conversation.
identi.ca certainly has promise. The fact that it's open source
means the functionality that people want will be implemented and
improved on. Unfortunately, we've been waiting on Google to improve
Jaiku and for Twitter to get their act together. I'm looking
forward to the future of identi.ca.
But Ping.fm seems to require identi.ca username and password and
I am using openid based login. IM not working for me. So only
website for me for now :(

Identi.ca it is then?

I think so, plurk is beginning to annoy me with its cutesy interface anyway.

Yeah anything that cute can't last hehehe :)

Yep, the timeline is also a huge annoyance to me, takes forever to navigate around it.

indenti.ca seems promising, if its for small groups. @bvlad wrote some very interesting things, even though he looked at it in a bigger context.
But as a replacement for jaiku, I don't think so unless bvlad says "green".

At this moment in time I'm not seeing it as a replacement for Jaiku, but definitely a replacement for Plurk. :)

identi.ca FAIL for me. Not received anything for IM registration (via Gtalk), web site far too slow to respond.

@ocifant: Rome wasn't built in a day. (taken from page 56 of the idiots guide to clichés).

Yep, give it time, it's really really really new atm!

oh..I'm not techie at all, so cuteness wins for me :-)) But I agree plurk timeline sucks

@WaveyDavey001: Agreed. I'll wait a week or two and try again. So much other stuff to check out in the meantime :-) Im liking Swurl...

Can we expect an Emacs interface you reckon? hehehehe :D

could you guys care to post your identi.ca usernames? It doesn't have even a basic search feature; my id is tabrez, thanks.

What are the reasons to switch from Jaiku to identi.ca? (being on two very similar services is a no-go for me)
1 month, 2 weeks ago by steffenlarsen.
@steffen Take a look here http://identi.ca/doc/faq It's mostly the open nature of it that is gaining it so many supporters
1 month, 2 weeks ago by zenith.
@steffenlarsen If you think like that there is no reason at all (and good on ya)
1 month, 2 weeks ago by WaveyDavey001.
That's good. Wonder how much of a strain it will put on the system...
1 month, 2 weeks ago by edythemighty.
OMG @evan on identi.ca has just said that jaiku like comments will be added, yipee!!!

Yeah I just sent him a Jaiku invite so he can check it out, I'm not saying he should copy this as such but he can get ideas :)

do you get IM posts from identi.ca?

@bubu Think IM is a bit flakey atm, but from what I can see evan is working on it
1 month, 2 weeks ago by zenith.
I want search ability first! Like uber-urgent!! In next five minutes!
1 month, 2 weeks ago by tabrez.
@bubu - IM is causing them problems apparently, GTalk is playing up today for them. They're working on it
1 month, 2 weeks ago by dantheman.
@zenith: so atm what are you using? only web interface?
1 month, 2 weeks ago by bubu1uk.
Web interface or ping.fm
1 month, 2 weeks ago by zenith.
Ping.fm should be the solution!
1 month, 2 weeks ago by krishanu.
@dantheman: it didn't work yesterday as well.
@all: how do i login to identi.ca on ping.fm if i'm loggin in with openID?
1 month, 2 weeks ago by bubu1uk.
Ah, no Jaiku-like conversations yet... that's what makes Jaiku great, so I'll stick around. :)
1 month, 2 weeks ago by steffenlarsen.
@steffanlarsen - Even just agreed to implement comments like Jaiku ASAP, he's on it :)
1 month, 2 weeks ago by dantheman.
Hope @jaiku is reading this all and do something
1 month, 2 weeks ago by arjun.
But Ping.fm seems to require identi.ca username and password and I am using openid based login. IM not working for me. So only website for me for now :(
